BETCHWORTH C.P. THE STREET TQ 24NW (West Side) 6/33 Gateway to Churchyard GV II

Gateway. Circa 1880. Limestone with ashlar dressings. Gabled gateway with broaches in re-entrant angles with flanking house and wall. Arched gate with moulded jamb shafts under foliate caps continuing as imposts and frieze to either side. Dog tooth moulding to arch with deep roll and hollow moulding below and voussoirs over. Carved soffit to arch dedicated to Hannah Corbett (died 1871). Shields and roundels above. Cast iron gate with crucifix and circular panels. The gate forms part of a picturesque approach to the Church.
