MORCHARD BISHOP CHURCH STREET (north side) SS 7607 - 7707 Morchard Bishop 11/146 - Woodstock GV II

House, former Post Office. Late C17 - early C18, extended probably in C19.

Plastered cob on rubble footings; rubble stack with C20 brick top; thatched roof.

L-shaped house with main block facing south onto road and right (east) end crosswing projecting to rear. At left (west) end it adjoins Fairview, The Green (q.v.). 3 room main block with axial stack right of centre. 2 storeys. Irregular 3-window front of C20 iron casements to first floor, C20 timber windows to ground floor; all have glazing bars. Left end is former shop window. Doors each end. Only roof inspected which showed development of building from earliest 1 room building at left (west) end. Probably late C17 roof on A frame truss with pegged lap-jointed collar and includes hip arrangement to east which includes a loading hatch.
