NZ 15 SE STANLEY THE AVENUE (West end) Greencroft 7/195 War Memorial GV II War memorial. Circa 1919 by Ayton, Blackhill. Tall granite obelisk on tapered plinth with gadrooned cornice, and base of 2 steps. Inscription on plinth 'ERECTED BY THE OWNERS/OFFICIALS AND WORKMEN/OF SOUTH PONTOP COLLIERY/IN MEMORY OF/OUR VILLAGE COMRADES/WHO FELL IN/THE GREAT WAR/1914-1918.' with motto on base.
