11/249 Wintle monument in churchyard, about 6.5m south of tower, church of St. Peter and St. Paul

GV II

Chest tomb; John Wintle, died 1827; stone. Swept weathered top, moulded edge: fluted pulvinated frieze. Quarter-rectangular gadrooned corner balusters with fluted shafts. South side rectangular panel with raised edge, Adam-style decoration; north side moulded frame, with sunk margin to rectangular panel with scalloped corners containing paterae. Ends raised moulded margin; within rectangular panel with indented semi-circular top, leaf decoration in spandrels. Good lettering. Some later inscriptions. One of group of 5 listed Wintle monuments, (q.v.).
