SO 71 SW WESTBURY-ON-SEVERN WESTBURY VILLAGE

11/240 Badger monument, in churchyard abort 8.5m north-west of north porch, Church of St. Peter and St. Paul GV II

Rectangular pedestal tomb; Badger family, late C18 (probably 1781); stone. Plain lid with moulded edge: corners slightly indented on sides. North side circle with raised, moulded edge, leaves in corners; south side raised panel with inset segmental top, flowers and pendants each side. Ends elongated pilasters with fluted capital, moulded base: shaft fluted on short returns, main face circle with raised moulded edge to west, sunk panel to east. Inscriptions on all faces. Earliest to Thomas Badger, died 1781 and his wife, some italic lettering, with flourishes, shows signs of black paint. Also to William Badger, died 1793; long s's appear in inscription to his wife, died 1832.
