BRAMFORD IPSWICH ROAD TM 14 NW 7/73 The Gables 9.12.55 - II House, C17. A 3-cell H-plan house, perhaps with an earlier core. Major alterations of mid C19 and C20. 2 storeys, partly with attics. Timber- framed, encased at front in mid C19 painted brick with flat corner pilasters.
Plaintilea roofs with axial and external chimneys of red brick. Mia C19 small-pane sash windows with cambered scone lintels; some windows of tri- partite form. 4 panelled entrance door with glazea upper panels and oblong fanlight. A central doorway with broad architrave now contains a sash. Two C19 extensions of 2 storeys to rear. The C17 roof over the centre range is constructed of components from a mediaeval house, possibly on this site; part of its walling may be incorporated in the present house. The parlour in the left-hand cross-wing has complete early C18 fielded panelling, with ceiling cornice and 6-panelled door.
