SD5005 MILL LANE 783-1/6/50 (South West side) 25/06/73 Windmill in garden of No.53 (Mill House) (Formerly Listed as: SKELMERSDALE AND HOLLAND MILL LANE Windmill)
Tower windmill, now derelict and dilapidated. Dated 1761 internally. Coursed squared sandstone (now lacking cap). Cylindrical form, with basement and 3 stages remaining; with the basement forming a plinth of large dressed blocks, and plain bands over the 1st and 2nd stages; a square-headed doorway at each cardinal point, all with surrounds of large dressed blocks, chamfered reveals and flat-arched heads with gauged voussoirs and raised keystones; 4 very small rectangular windows to each of the upper stages, regularly arranged on each level and those to the top stage aligned with the doorways but those to the intermediate stage at intermediate points. INTERIOR: one massive beam to the former 2nd stage floor; small fireplace at 2nd stage with lintel crudely inscribed "M G 1761". Forms group with No.53, Mill House (qv).
