SD5007 ROBY MILL, Roby Mill 783-1/5/116 (East side) 25/06/73 The Fox Inn and attached former stable (Formerly Listed as: SKELMERSDALE AND HOLLAND ROBY MILL Fox Inn and attached stables)

GV II

Public house. Probably later C18; altered and internally extended into former stable to right. Painted roughcast, probably on sandstone rubble; composition tile roof. Double-depth 3-unit plan with back extensions. Two low storeys and 3 windows; doorway to 1st bay with reeded pilasters and semi-circular canopy (and now blocked internally); 3-light casement windows at ground floor and 2-light casements above, all with applied hexagonal-pattern leading. Chimneys at left gable, on front slope and at right-hand end. Small former stable attached at right-hand end, of sandstone rubble, one bay and 2 low storeys, has doorway with thin rectangular lintel, blocked window at ground floor and 2-light casement above, and chimney to right. Forms group with Nos 18 & 20 adjoining to the right (qv).
