GATCOMBE

SZ48NE GATCOMBE 1353-0/1/92 Bridge at Gatcombe House

II

Bridge, formerly to carriage drive. Mid C18. Built of tooled ashlar, splayed out at ends. Stone coping. Semi circular arch with keystone facing north when it was most visible, flat arch facing south. The carriage drive to Gatcombe House has now been turned to the other side of the house but an engraving of c1808 shows this was the original approach.
