ROUNDWAY NURSTEED SU 06 SW 5/212 Nursteed Farmhouse

II

Farmhouse, C17 or earlier, render over timber-frame with Bridgwater tile roof of 1912, replacing thatch. Ridge and east end stacks.

Long 2-storey front of small-paned casement windows, 2-window range to left of 3-light and 4-light over door and 3-light window, 3- window range to right of two 3-lights and one 2-light over 3-lights each side of door in timber gabled porch. Rear stack behind right side. Rear has early C18 projecting extension in chequered brick with hipped roof and 2-window range of casements. East end wall has projection added c1920 for water-tank.

Interior: heavy chamfered centre and spine beams throughout ground floor. Large chimney-breast in centre. Several early C18 fielded panelled doors. House was a mill recorded in 1660 and presumably the mill at Nursteed mentioned in 1424 was on this site.
