MARLBOROUGH SU 1868 HIGH STREET (North side) 2/187 No 75 GV II The description shall be amended to read House. Probably C15, probably C16/C17 (concealed), early/mid C18 with C19 alterations. Timber framed, rendered, with old tile roof. Two room range parallel to street with through passage on right leading to long rear wing.

Main elevation: C18 in character, the timber frame which is said to be close studded with decorative braces is entirely concealed externally. Two storeys and attics. On left is a central oriel with plain sashes over a plain C19 shop- front, to right flush framed cased sash with glazing bars with another over, both 16 panes. Plank door in plain surround to passage. Two C19 gabled attic dormers with casements and glazing bars. Cambered roof with brick end stack.

Interior: At east end between Nos 75 and 76 is a medieval timber framed closed truss probably of cruck construction. This may be a survivor of a previous building to either No 75 or No 76. Inspected from No 76 it has a slightly cambered tie beam, convex brace, queen struts and a slightly cambered collar, the top of an apparent cruck is also visible.

2 attic dowmers witn casements and glazing bars, those to right hand lead.

Nos 65 to 85 (consec), The Sun public House and Nos 88 to 90 (consec) form a group, together with the Church of St Peter and St Paul, and with Nos 42 to 64 (consec) on the South Side.
