THELBRIDGE STRETCH DOWN SS 81 SW 3/269 - North Beacon and South Beacon - II

2 cottages. Probably C18 with late C19 and circa 1984 extensions. Plastered cob on rubble footings, plastered rubble and concrete blockwork extensions; rubble stack topped with C19 brick; thatched roof with slate to extensions. Originally a pair of semi-detatched 1-room plan cottages facing south-west with shared front lobby entrance and stack in party wall serving back-to-back fireplaces. North Beacon to left (north-west) with late C19 store adjoining left end and South Beacon to right with circa 1984 extension. 2 storeys. Formerly symmetrical 4-window front to main block of late C19-early C20 casements with glazing bars. Central doorway. It is unusual C19 door of 3 upright panels with fourth glazed panel across top, probably late C19 gabled and slate-roofed porch. Door now exclusive to North Beacon and since circa 1984 new doorway intruded to outer side of South Beacon and other ground floor window replaced. Main roof is half-hipped each side. Single storey extension to North Beacon includes C20 iron framed window and Victorian post box. 2 storey circa 1984 2 window extension to South Beacon.

Interior: both original rooms have rubble fireplaces with plain oak lintels and brick ovens in rear. Roofs not inspected.
