CORFE MULLEN SY 99 NE 10/12 Court House (formerly listed as Court 18.3.55 Farmhouse) - II* House. The surviving wing of a large late C16 house, with mid C19 alterations and extensions at the north end. Ironstone ashlar of large blocks, plinth, 1st floor drip mould, hood moulds, later walling, at the north end, of ironstone rubble, both sections with limestone dessings; brickwork to the north service wing. Tile roofs with stone slates to the lowest courses; triple diagonal flues to the two stacks. Tall rectangular block of two storeys and attic, with single storeyed service wing (wider than the main part and with a double gable); the east front, of 3 above 2:1 windows. The ground floor has original mullion and transome lights in moulded stone frames, two upper coupled windows in stone of the C19, and an upper oriel with original stone base. Casements. Plain boarded door beneath a canopy on rustic poles. The west elevation, of 2 windows, has ground floor windows of the same pattern, and two upper 3-light original stone frames. The south gable has a massive stack, with small windows at each side. The interior is of special interest; the ground floor is divided into two parts by a screen of vertical boarding, the main south room having a Tudor fireplace and a notable decorated plaster ceiling, frieze and window soffit. The room above has a similar ceiling and the walls are lined with C18 wood panelling. The north room (entrance hall) is stone flagged and has a C17 wood staircse, re-set from elsewhere. RCHM
