NEEDHAM MARKET HIGH STREET (WEST) TM 0854
3/74 No.23 -
- II
House and shop. Built in 2 stages; the shop in C16, and the house in earlier C16 or possibly C15 but with major alterations. 2 storeys. Timber-framed, the front wall encased in plastered masonry. Plaintiled roof with internal end chimneys of red brick. Late C19 small-pane sashes. The shop has a late C19 shop window with cornice and blind-box. C20 panelled half-glazed doors.
The shop contains one cell of a C16 building, the remainder of which is probably encapsulated within No.25 High Street. It was jettied towards the street, but the framing is largely concealed. The remainder of No.23 was originally a single-storey building and possibly an open hall; a 2-storey wing was added to rear in C17, and the front range raised and reroofed in C18/C19.
