3/24 North Grove Lock (No. 71)

GV II

Lock No. 71 on the Grand Union Canal. Circa 1797 as a lock on the Grand Junction Canal (became Grand Union Canal by amalgamation 1919). Dates 1869 on hinge of S gate and 1881- on hinge of N gate may mark repairs or may be parts removed from other lock gates. Brick with stone setts capping revetment on W side. Timber gates. Timber and iron bollards probably cast 1896 by the London and Lancashire Engineering Co. Lock 88ft by 16ft to accommodate narrow boats in pairs. Included for group value.
