TQ 25NE BANSTEAD FORMER U.D. BRIGHTON ROAD,(east side) HOOLEY 4/82 Coal Tax Post beside Starbridge at TQ 28915683 Coal and Wine tax post. Circa 1861, made by Henry Grissell. Circa 3 foot high..- Metal, four legged plinth chamfered pier above with moulded capital band and pyramidal top. City of London shield on front. Lettering on a correction plate attached to front rods. "ACT/24 and 25 VICT/CAP 42". A coal and wine tax post indicating the boundary at which duty was payable; that on coal dating back to the 1660's.
