NAILSEA C.P. CAUSEWAY VIEW (east side) ST 47 SE 4/51 Old Kingshill Farmhouse - II

Farmhouse, now house. Dated 1643 on centre front gable, possibly earlier origin, with C20 alterations. Whitewashed rubble, part rendered, double Roman tiled roof with stone ridge and gable stacks, formerly thatched. Former through passage plan, T-plan formed by wing to front and former dairy continuing main range. 1 1/2 storeys, ground floor has three 3-light casements, centre one formerly door, 3 uneven small gables above, each with 3-light casement, all C20 replacements; wing to left has 3-light casement and C20 door in ovolo-moulded frame, cut back for passage of barrels and filled in, front end of wing rendered with single stair light. Right return rendered; left return of wing has 2-light casement, raking 2-light dormer, front of main range has 3-light casement and similar dormer, gable end has small 2-pane light at ground floor. Rear has one 2-light and two 3-light casements to right, similar 3-light dormer and roof light; to left, C20 single storey addition enclosing former rear passage door, roof extended from pitch of main roof with 3-light casement to right side and door. Interior: chamfered and stopped beams throughout ground floor, room to right has cambered chamfered lintel to fireplace, stone newel stair at end, passage formerly had straight stair, now open to room, round arched door to left with early pintles remaining; centre room, foreplace (ridge stack) has chamfered flat lintel, possible smoking chamber to left, front wing has door with strap hinges to C20 replacement newel stair at gable end. First floor has chamfered and stopped frame to door over former dairy, 2-bay roof over each room, room to right has principal rafters and collar, one row of purlins to rear slope.
