ST ALDATE'S STREET 1.

1485 (West Side) Church of St Aldate SP 5106 SW 8/462 12.1.54.

SP 5105 NW 12/462 B 2.

Parish church. (RCHM 28). Chancel may possibly date from C12. Cl4 south aisle and crypt at east end. Mid C15 north aisle (circa 1456). Church restored circa 1815 by Daniel Evans. Nave arcades rebuilt, North chapel, North West vestry and south chapel added 1862 and south aisle extended, all by John Thomas Christopher. West tower and spire rebuilt 1873-4 by Christopher.

Roofs of nave and south aisle recovered 1888. North chapel remodelled in 1905 by A Mardon Mowbray, architect. Modern south porch. Contains altar tomb and effigy, 1522 and C17 and C18 monuments.
