GILDINGWELLS BURRS LANE SK58NE (west side) 3/28 Burrs Farmhouse and attached outbuilding GV II
Farmhouse and attached outbuilding. Late C17 with probably C18 outbuilding, both altered. Thinly-coursed sandstone, pantile roofs. 2 storeys with attic, 3 windows to 1st floor; later hipped-roof addition to rear-left of house with C20 addition in angle; attached outbuilding to front-right corner of house.
Main range: chamfered plinth, ashlar quoins. Doorway to far right has 4-pane overlight and ashlar surround; C20 casement on its right has C17 lintel and dripstone. Two C20 casements on left in positions of original windows (indicated by remains of original jambs), between them a small fire window, C20 casements to 1st floor have projecting stone sills. Brick end stack on right has stone tabling, similar ridge stack above fire window. Left return: attic has intact 2-light chamfered mullioned window with dripstone. Attached outbuilding: 2 boarded doors in bonded surrounds on right of external stone steps; doorway to far left. has chamfered jambs and wooden lintel and casement to its right; 1st-floor casement in angle with main range; brick ridge stack with stone tabling.
Raising of eaves clearly indicated on right return.
Interior: right ground-floor room of farmhouse has bressumer beam with shaped wooden bracket and keyed archway on right. Front door opens into passage with a chamfered, quoined doorway in each side. Rooms on left have back-to-back ashlar fireplaces and stop-chamfered ceiling beams.
