DITCHINGHAM NORWICH ROAD TM 39 SW 6/37 Ditchingham House 25-9-51 - II
House, now sub-divided. Late C18, remodelled in late C19. Red brick; hipped roof of black glazed pantiles behind parapet. 2 1/2 storeys, 3 x 4 bays. North facade of three bays: two ground floor polygonal bays with decorative leaded glazing. Later central porch, now glazed in, with good cornice on four Tuscan columns. 2-leaf glazed porch doors, half-glazed entrance door with moulded architrave. Two first floor sashes with glazing bars, centre 2-light window above porch tall with two transoms and semicircular heads to lights; decorative leaded glazing. Moulded brick modillion cornice below eaves parapet; square attic sashes. East elevation of four bays: two 2-storey canted bays with sashes with moulded string course and cornice, panelled parapet with ball-finials. Four attic sashes above. Central chimney stack. 3-bay rear elevation with central 1/2-glazed door, door surround with pediment on console brackets. Square one-storey porch to right hand side with parapet railings; first floor glazed access doors. Lower 2-storey range to west with large square 2-storey bay: C20 metal casements, chimney stack off-centre to west.
Lower 2-storey 2-bay extension to west incorporating garden wall with semicircular-headed blind arcading. Formerly the home of the writer Sir Henry Rider Haggard.
