Former farmhouse. Late C16 with early-mid C17 remodelling. Main range with projecting cross-wing to left; further work to right of main range is missing.
Ground floor of red brick with diaperwork in dark headers. Upper floor timber framed and rendered. Slated roof. 2 storeys and attic. Upper floor jettied at front, with a moulded baseplate. Cross-wing has moulded tie beam and brackets to ends of wallplates. On ground floor, 2 original 4-light windows with hollow-moulded mullions; a further similar window to rear. Upper windows are C19 4-paned casements. Heavy ovolo-moulded doorframe of early-mid C17; contemporary overlight with a single ovolo mullion. C19 4-panel door. This doorway is in the position of a blocked late C16 window. Blocked doorway in projecting side wall of cross-wing, adjacent to main range. Stack at right gable end has square shaft with moulded brick base. Interior. Both upper rooms have good early-mid C17 ribbed plaster ceilings with all-over geometric designs, mainly comprising lozenges and squares. Upper fireplace has stuccoed 4-centred arch. Some heavy close studding, especially in cross-wing; the studding in both ranges is trimmed for large upper windows. Former doorway by stack on upper floor has ovolo moulding. Ground floor ceilings show chamfered floorbeams (including dragon beam), the joists concealed. Open fireplace with original lintol. Side purlin roof; a lower row of butt purlins with 2-way cranked wind bracing.
