5/105 Churchyard lych gate adjoining north side of Church Cottage

GV II

Lych gate. Probably C19. Coursed blocks of massive granite ashlar; slate roof.

Lych gate with kissing gate alongside forms the west gateway to the churchyard. It is built against the front wall of Church Cottage (q.v). The outer (left looking towards the Church) wall is a granite ashlar wall with a chamfered plinth, large shaped kneelers and granite coping. It carries the end of the roof, the other end resting against the cottage. This roof has its original ridge and purlins. This shelters the timber double gates which are panelled below the lockbar, open above with wrought iron railings and crest of iron fleur-de-lys. They are hung on large strap hinges. Kissing gate to the left in same style.
