8/54 Dovecote about 20 yards north of Hellens (formerly 18.11.52 listed as Hellens with Dovecote)

Dovecote. "1641/ W / FM " on west side. Brick, plaster quoins and string courses, tiled roof and wooden glover. Octagonal. Two almost continuous string courses, square and diamond patterns in brickwork, chamfered 4-centred doorway to south side above which is an inserted C18 or early C19 segmentally- headed window which interrupts the lower string course. Interior: remains of bottom part of potence; about 20 rows of sawn-off tenons indicate that there were projecting nesting ledges rather than hollowed-out nests. (RCHM Vol II, p 131).
