SO 3288 BISHOP'S CASTLE C.P. CHURCH STREET (east side)

12/31 Nos. 8 and 10 - (White Gates) 28/7/50 GV II

Pair of cottages. Mid- to late C17 with late-C19 and late 20 alterations and additions. Timber framed with painted infil panels, rendered to left with painted imitation framing; coursed limestone rubble end walls, that to right painted; C20 slate roof. Probably 4 framed bays. One storey and attic. 4 gabled dormers with slate-hung sides and late-C19 cast iron lozenge-paned 2-light casements; integral end stack off- ridge to left, integral end stack to right, and brick ridge stack off-centre to right, rebuilt above roof in mid- to late C20. Framing: square panels. 5 window front; late C19 cast iron lozenge-paned casements; boarded door between first and second windows from left and C19 hipped- roofed porch between first and second windows from right with hipped stone slate roof and central late-C20 boarded door flanked by lozenge- paned windows; C20 ground floor canted bay in gable-end to right.
