LONG WHATTON MAIN STREET SK 4723 13/193 No 22 (Ivy House Farm- house) 7.12.62 GV II

House. Late C17 with C19 casements. Red brick with irregular vitreous headers, all laid in English bond. Rubble stone plinth with chamfered coping, flush dressed stone quoins, and gable copings. Swithland slate roof. 2 rebuilt brick chimneys with pairs of square shafts linked by off-set tops. Double pile. 2 storeys, attic and cellar. 2 gabled bays to front. Horizontal sliding sashes with wooden glazing bars and high segmental header arches over brick tympana.

Ground and first floors have 3-light windows; 2-light windows to attics in gables and to central staircase. C20 single light inserted to ground floor right. 2 cellar windows in chamfered stone surrounds to left bay. Return walls have single lights, some blocked, near front corners. To right is a 2-storey extension with later outshot to front and C20 porch to rear. South front of house has 2-bays of 3-light barred wooden casements with segmental heads, a large horizontal 2-light sash to first floor right, and a central flush-panelled door with small single light above. Interior has large rooms on south side with ovolo-moulded spine beams, one room also with ovolo-moulded fireplace lintel.

Smaller north rooms with simpler beams flank central staircase which retains original newel posts and some splat balusters on flight to attic. Heavy stud partitions divide north and south rooms. Original roof with trenched double purlins, high collars and some wind-braces.
