LONG WHATTON CLEMENTS GATE SK 4424-4524 (Diseworth) 12/166 No 2 (Cross Farmhouse) with walls, railings and gate to front GV II

House, with walls, railings and gate to front garden. House is c1700 with early C19 fenestration to front. Walls, railings and gate are also early C19. House is built of chequer brick on rubble stone base, with plain blue tile roof, brick gable copings and small rebuilt brick chimneys. Double pile. 2 storeys, attic and cellar; 2 x 2 bays. String courses with off-set dentil corbels. Front has gable to left with 2-light horizontal sash to attic, and 2 bays of early C19 boxed 4-pane sashes. All windows have painted wedge lintels. Central 6-panelled top-lit door in rusticated doorcase with cornice over voussoir head.

Doorcase is made of painted stone and is very similar to that at Old Hall Farm- house in Grimes Gate (qv). Right side of house has 2 gabled bays, with string- courses stepped up over staircase windows between. Upper stair window is blocked but retains flat brick arch as does lower window. Left bay has 2-light attic casement and blocked window below. Right bay has 3-light barred wooden casement to main floors and blocked attic window. Cellar has board door and window to left. To front of house is a small garden with brick WALLS to sides, and brick dwarf walls with wrought iron RAILINGS to front. Railings have waved spike finials. Central GATE is similar but with oval panel containing honey- suckle motifs at base. Supporting standards are also ornamented and have honey- suckle finials.
