STUDLEY ALCESTER ROAD SP06SE (East side) 4/187 Gatepiers, gates, railings and 01/02/67 garden walls approx. 10m. W of Hountbatten House (Formerly listed as Manor House with gatepiers and gates)

GV II

Gatepiers, gates and overthrow, railings and garden walls, Late C17. Gates and overthrow possibly by Nicholas Parris (Buildings of England). Gatepiers of ashlar stone. Faces with 3 fielded panels. Boldly projecting cornices. Finials of baskets of flowers. Wrought iron gates, overthrow and railings. Gates have some scrollwork. Elaborate scrollwork overthrow has central cartouche with T.C.

monogram. Railings have a scroll at junctions with piers and garden walls. Brick plinth. Garden walls of red English bond brick with stone coped tops. The monogram is probably the initials of Charles Knottesford (died 1697) and his wife Theresa. Gates, railings and walls enclose the forecourt with centrally-placed garden urn (q.v.) to the front of Hounbatten House (q.v.).
