HART BURN THORNTON NZ 08 NE NZ 098866 9/58 Thornton House II House, late C18. Squared tooled stone, slate roof. Main block with L-plan servants' wing to east. Front 3 storeys, 3 bays, symmetrical. Plinth. Late C19 sashes in old openings; coped gables with stepped end stacks. Set back to right 2-storey, 2-bay wing with similar fenestration, coped gable and stone end stack. On left return a small projecting porch with flush-panelled door, Gothick window and hipped roof. Pedimented gable end. Rear elevation shows similar fenestration to front. Interior: open-well stair with stick balusters and swept grip handrail.
