SU 86 SW YATELEY VICARAGE ROAD

3/4 Barclay House 8.7.52

- II

Circa 1820. 2 storeys, 3 windows. A symmetrical 'Grecian' villa. Low pitched slate roof with wide eaves, having a thin cornice on slender curved brackets.

Stucco walling; fillet below eaves, 1st floor projecting band at cill level, ground-floor has plain architraves to French windows separated by 4 semicircular niches. Sashes in reveals. The full width of the ground floor has a raised verandah, with 6 slender cast-iron columns supporting a thin cornice. At each end a square pavilion with openings on the front and interior sides, with blocking course above a simple cornice, plain frieze and panelled pilasters, standing on a plinth continuous with the verandah floor. 3 steps, flanked by urns, form a central access to the verandah, which has between the columns wrought-iron diagonally-framed rails. The severe style is continued round the sides, with a small 2-storeyed extension set back on the west.
