1/25 The Thatches - - II
House, c.1550 with alterations of mid C20. 3-cell plan originally with cross- entry. One storey with attics. Timber-framed and plastered. Concrete plaintiled roof, formerly thatched; half-hipped at either end. An axial chimney of gault brick and two C19/C20 end chimneys. Large C20 eyebrow casement dormers. Small-pane casements. Boarded C20 entrance door with glazed panel; a hipped concrete-plaintiled porch on oak posts. Heavy first floors exposed with unchamfered joists and binding beams with broad chamfers.
Both half-hipped end walls are built upon pairs of well-formed base crucks.
