Formal lower terrace to S of house, 80 metres long with seat in recess at .W end at upper level. 2 flights of 7 semicircular brick steps project southward, 1 near each end, flanked by low square brick piers with stone capping set in the long brick retaining wall with similar capping. Seat modelled in Florentine style with circular central achievement in the back with motto 'Tenax roposite'. Possibly part of the same terraced design with the Portland stone upper terrace and tank attached to the house. An impressive architectural feature, essential to the setting of the house.
