12/5 Lychgate and walls around St Mary's churchyard

GV II

Lychgate and walls. 1880 walls, 1907 gate. Walls flint with brick bands and dressings, reused very old stone coping, and timber lychgate on dressed stone plinth, old plain tile roof. Wall 1.5-2m in height with brick dressings at 2-3m intervals and stone coping possibly from old church. Lychgate square plan with wide gates at on end, 3 carved trefoiled open panels above lower panels with carving. Gabled roof with wide eaves and iron crosses at each end and carvings in gables. Inside longitudinally set benches with carved ends and inscription around wallplate.
