3/139 The Old Smithy and adjoining cob 26.8.65 wall to south-east

GV II

House, formerly 2 cottages and forge and adjoining cob boundary wall. Probably C18, modernised in mid C20. Plastered cob on rubble footings; cob or rubble stacks with brick tops; thatched roof to main block, slated to rear. L-shaped building with main block facing north-west and breaking its line right of centre.

Originally the Forge was right of break, a 2 room cottage left of break with 1 room cottage to rear of left side. 2 storeys. 3 window front of C20 wooden sashes with glazing bars and C19 and C20 casements with glazing bars. Former Forge entrance at right end now blocked by triple arrangement of C20 sashes. Plain carpentry detail inside. Wall of plastered cob on rubble footings with corrugated iron capping extends from back of rear cottage south-east to meet similar cob wall belonging to Glen Cottage (q.v.)
