CHULMLEIGH FORE STREET, (east side), SS 6814 - 6914 Chulmleigh 7/71 The Town Pump

GV II Town Pump. Early C19 by J. D. Young and Sons of Barnstaple. Cast iron. Tall, octagonal shaft of 2 stages, the top stage slightly reduced in section. Bar stops to the base of the 4 principal facets and pyramid stops to moulded base. Cast iron pump handle on south side. Ogee cap surmounted by late C19 glass lantern with wrought iron brackets, cresting and mythical heads at the corners.

The pump is situated in the middle of Fore Street immediately to the west of the former Kings Arms (q.v.), the glass lantern replacing an elaborate wrought iron name plaque which guided travellers to the inn.
