14/135 East Entrance Screen to Rokeby 12/1/67 Park, with attached walls and railings

GV II

Entrance screen with attached walls and railings, early C19. Screen ashlar, side walls squared stone with cut coping: gates and railings cast iron.

Screen in Greek revival style.

Double gates with moulded spike tops to uprights at both levels, curved lower rails and downswept tops; similar railings link to screen walls. Walls have end pilasters (the outer of double width), plinth, Greek Key frieze, coved cornice and central square-headed opening with gate at right and railings at left.

Left 20-metre low wall with arched coping carrying spearhead railings (some tops missing). Right similar wall runs to end pier of Greta Bridge (q.v.).

Original 1725 gate piers moved in early C19 to hold railed screen (q.v.) alongside A66.
