EAST SUTTON EAST SUTTON ROAD TQ 84 NW (west side) Parsonage 5/75 Farmhouse 26.4.68 GV II*

Farmhouse. Early to mid C15 with later C16 alterations.

Timber framed, rendered, except ground floor of right end bay which clad with painted brick. Rear wall of left wing red brick in English bond with moulded stone plinth which continues round part of left gable end of main range. Right wall of wing tile-hung. Plain tile roof. Wealden of 4 timber-framed bays, with later C16 or C17 two-storey, single- bay wing to rear to left. 2 storeys on stone plinth. Left end bay jettied, jetty formerly returning on moulded dragon post but now underbuilt. Right end bay formerly jettied to front and side; jetty and dragon post visible inside. Arch- braced flying wall-plate. Bracket under central tie-beam.

Hipped roof with gablets. Multiple brick ridge stack in front slope of roof to left end of hall. Projecting chequered brick stack to right gable end. Irregular fenestration of 3 casements; one 3-light to each end bay, and one 4-light to top of 2-storey rectangular bay to right of stack. Panelled door to right end of hall. Interior: doorway to each end of hall with moulded jambs, 4-centred arched head and hollow spandrels. Heavily braced end-of-hall crown- posts. Moulded crown-post on cambered moulded tie-beam to hall. Braced cross tie-beams to each end bay with moulded crown-post to right (and possibly to left) . Moulded beams to inserted hall floor. Moulded 4-centred arched doorway with carved spandrels, also later C16, to passage to rear of stack. 4-centred arched fireplace to left end room.
