TOLLESBURY BACK ROAD TL 91 SW - (north side) 3/3 Barn of Bourchier's Farm, approx. 90 metres north of Bourchier's Hall GV II

Range of 2 attached barns. C18. Timber framed, weatherboarded, roofed with corrugated iron. 2 barns each of 5 bays aligned E-W, and each with a midstrey to the S, joined end to end to form a continuous range. The barn to the E is the earlier, shown by the external weatherboarding now enclosed in the W barn.

Lean-to extensions between and on each side of the midstreys. Great doors to N and S. The E barn has a plinth of red brick in English bond, approx. 1.50 metres high, some arched braces to the tiebeams, some bolted knees, and a clasped purlin roof, of which 1 bays at the E end have been rebuilt. The W barn has a plinth of cement-rendered brick approx. 1 metre high, bolted knees to the tiebeams, and a joggled butt-purlin roof. Both have primary straight bracing in the walls.
