GV II

Walls, gate piers, gates and railings to The Chantry (qv). C19. Positioned opposite the front door; tall Ham Hill stone piers with wide moulded cornices, stepped and swept caps, have tall pyramidal finials with moulded bases and recessed panels to each facet. A Ham Hill stone plinth, attached to the right, north-east corner of The Chantry, curves forward, encloses the front garden, and attaches to a high wall to the left. On it are railings which sweep up to the sides, each railing has a flat acorn-shaped top and the main supports have acorn finials. The gate is similar, with pointed-arch struts and a dipped curve to the top. A high rough ashlar limestone wall encloses the L-shaped garden to the left, south, and rough ashlar and brick to the rear, west. The railings are similar to those enclosing the forecourt to the south of Cross House, Court Barton (qv).
