CROSBY

SD30SW SANDY LANE, Hightown 778-1/2/149 (East side) 26/03/73 Rose Cottage

II

Farmhouse, now house. Probably early C18; enlarged and altered. Handmade brick, slate roof. Probably originally a single-depth 2-unit baffle-entry plan, with early addition of a 3rd unit, plus rear outshuts under catslide roofs added in C19 and C20. 2 low storeys, with 2 windows at 1st floor of the main range. This has the doorway to the left, now protected by a C20 wooden porch with part-glazed door, and two wide 3-light windows on each floor to the right, those at ground floor with segmental brick arches over them and all now with C20 casements. To the right the 3rd unit has a 2-light casement with a similar arch over it and 4-pane glazing. Extruded brick chimney to left gable, ridge chimney at junction to right. Brick buttress to former rear left corner (at junction with C19 outshut). INTERIOR: not inspected.
