Terrace of 7 small houses, with associated front garden walls and gate piers. Dated 1823 on rainwater head at No.12; altered. Handmade red brick in Flemish bond, with sandstone dressings, wooden bays and porches, slate roof. Double-depth plan, each house single-fronted; with various back extensions.

EXTERIOR: 2 low storeys, a 14-window range (2 windows each); with a plain frieze and moulded gutter cornice. Doorways to the left (except No.14 which is coupled with No.12), all square-headed with part-glazed panelled doors which have two 2-centred arched lights with Y-tracery, those at Nos 2 to 10 protected by small wooden trellis porches (differing) with swept hipped roofs but those at Nos 12 and 14 now in recessed porches formed by forward extension of the ground floor. Except for Nos 12 and 14, each has a large wooden 5-sided canted bay window at ground floor, that at No.10 with original French windows which have Tudor-arched glazing with margin panes but now lacks the cornice, that at No.8 with the original dentilled frieze and moulded cornice but altered French windows with glazing bars; all the others lack the cornices and have variously altered glazing with glazing bars, mostly C20 except that at No.2 which has C19 sashes (24 and 18 panes). In the forward extension at ground floor Nos 12 and 14 have canted bays with altered glazing (uPVC at No.12). At 1st floor each house has a pair of small rectangular 2-light windows with raised stone surrounds and 2-centred arched lights with Y-tracery, those at No.10 sashed but all the others now casements. Moulded rainwater head at No.12 with raised lettering "1823". Ridge chimneys. Rear: mostly altered, but some have hornless sashes. INTERIORS: not inspected. Small front gardens enclosed by brick walls approx. 1 metre high with moulded stone coping, each house with a pair of monolith gate piers which have 2-centred arched tops. HISTORICAL NOTE: the painter JMW Turner lived in one of these houses when painting in the district.
