GV II

Fountain, formerly in Albert Square. 1897, by Thomas Worthington, relocated in early C20. Gothic style. Stone. Hexagonal plan. Base of 3 steps; large hexagonal bowl with piers at the corners and inwardly raked walls; smaller central hexagonal bowl raised on pedestal and colonettes, with lettered band and blind tracery; and rising from the centre of this a slender pedestal with a shell-like bowl and a finial formerly surmounted by a bronze dolphin (missing at time of survey). Forms group with Heaton Hall.
