5/81 The Ancient House

G.V. II House. C19 remodelling of early C17 building. Flint and red brick with steeply pitched pantile roof with crested ridge. Two storeys with one storey wing to S.

Crow-stepped gables. Early C17 two storey porch with ore-topper gable, three light ovolo-mullioned window and moulded and chamfered door frame, Brick rectangular hood moulds over openings. Five chimney stacks with paired terra- cotta moulded shafts, bases and castellated caps. Two 3- and 4-light mullion and transom windows, mostly C19. Pediments over some first floor windows.

Evidence of earlier brick and flint work in N gable with two 2-light window with drip moulds, one opening blocked. Flank wall on E side of flint and brick with pantile capping.
