Description

Plant rooms in the upper basements at the site housed machinery to filter the air and regulate the temperature and humidity of the book storage vaults at lower levels. Rare book and manuscript stores also have gas extinguishing systems in the event of fire to avoid water damage from sprinklers.

This image was catalogued as part of the Breaking New Ground Project in partnership with the John Laing Charitable Trust in 2019-20.
