Description

The stencil copies an original one, part of which is preserved, the stencil is to match the preserved part. The design is made of two parts a black and white base sheet of card with the outlines of the shape, which are to be cut out to produce the stencil and a tracing paper overlay with the colours on, which is stuck to the base sheet. The colours used on the overlay are matched on the overlay key with paint sample papers. These are in a folder with a typed sheet stapled to it. The sheet identifies the names and reference numbers of the paint colours used in the colour match.

The plan is undated but the rest of the folder dated from 1980-3 and renovation work took place in these buildings in 1987-8. It is by the Crown Buildings and Monuments Advisory Group, a specific body within the Department of the Environment, and under a different name, within English Heritage.
