Description

The stone was found in the restoration of 1864 and kept in the vicarage garden until it was donated to the chapter library, Durham in 1896. It is now in the Monk's dormitory, Durham Cathedral. The upper part depicts the calf-length hemlines and lower legs of two figures. The lower part has three frontal figures holding books in their upturned hands. Continuous lines are formed by their haloes, tunic hems and belts.
