Underneath the lower right corner of the image, on the mount, are the initials 'J.A.R'.
The Royal Suspension Chain Pier, known colloquially as the Chain Pier, was designed by Captain Samuel Brown and was built in 1823. It was destroyed in a storm on 4th December 1896.
This photograph was withdrawn from the open Red Box Collection for conservation reasons during the 2011-2012 Red Box Project.
