Description

The original caption reads: "Gordon Russell, C.B.E., M.C., Director, Council of Industrial Design."

Russell was one of the founding members of the Council of Industrial Design, and became Director in 1947. He was involved in the selection of content for the Festival of Britain in 1951, and believed the festival would "open the gateway to a new and better era of prosperity".
