Description

The tennis court was built for Sir Andrew Noble in 1894 and has been used by Jesmond Dene Real Tennis Club since its formation in 1932. The components of tennis balls for real tennis have remained largely unchanged since the 16th century. This photograph, cropped and with the background removed to leave only the left-hand tennis ball, was published on page 145 of 'Played in Tyne & Wear' by Lynn Pearson.
