The house was built in 1919 by Reavell and Cahill on the site of a late 17th century property. Additions were made to the building in 1928, by Robert Mauchlin architects, for the shipowner and philanthropist Sir Arthur Sutherland. As of 2019, the building is used as the Hethpool House Bed and Breakfast.
