Description

Photographer's note: 'Chamberlain Tower, the centre focal point of the D plan group of main university buildings designed by Sir Aston Webb and Ingress Bell, 1900-1909. Dramatically soaring bright, machined Accrington red brick campanile clock tower of tapering square section rising sheer from the forecourt with a corbelled top stage and lantern. Modelled on the Torre del Mangia in Siena, it was described by the Birmingham Daily Post as the 'intellectual beacon of the West Midlands'.'
